24 Mar Looking for the Sun
Last week we were looking for the sun to shine through the clouds over Oxford to get a glimpse of the partial eclipse. It was quite magical when the clouds suddenly became translucent to reveal the magnificent spectacle. On this occasion I observed and enjoyed the moment without my camera, knowing that there would be so many brilliant photos taken from locations blessed with cloudless skies.
I have always enjoyed sunsets and sunrises. The warm, raw and ever changing light of different landscapes and cloudscapes is always wonderful to experience. The challenge of the photograph is the extreme contrast range which the eye can see, but which is well beyond the scope of a camera’s censor. This tangled web of a weeping willow silhouetted in early Spring beautifully frames the disappearing sun, as does Stonehenge as it rises.
